IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 2006/101
DECLARING APRIL 23-29 AS
"NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK".
IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
WHEREAS, President Ronald W..Reagan~firstdeclared.".National Crime Victims' Rights Week" in
1981 to focus attention ori the plight of crime victims; and

WHEREAS, National Crinie,Victims'. Rights Week-provides opportunity for us all to reflect on the
devastating impact of crime and terrorism ori victims=a nd`to:strergthen our national resolve
to ensure-that victims'-needs are identified and addressed; and
WHEREAS, since 1981;the crime victim assistance field has expanded._froln a handful of assistance

programs to include o"ver 10,000 commuriity an just cesysterii based programs, and in 2005,
there are more than 32,000 federal and state statutes that define and`protect'victims' rights;

N OW, THEREFORE;'BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra;C,os;ta.:.Courit'y Board of Supervisors
declares the week o f April.23-29, 2006, to be Natioriat':Crime-,Victims' Rights Week in
Contra Costa County, aid Honor-crime victims.and those who serve them during this week
and throughout the year-,-

ear-,BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that as'individuals,'communities, and as a county, we value justice
in our county that includes and involves crime victims and seek to serve justice by serving
victims of crime.
