IN THE MATTER OF THE RETIREMENT-OF RESOLUTION NO. 2006/125
JAMES L. SEPULVEDA UPON THE OCCASION
OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER 28 YEARS
OF DEDICATED SERVICE
TO CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
WHEREAS, dames L. Sepulveda is retiring from his position as Senior Deputy District Attorney with the
Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office on March 31, 2006,it.is appropriate to
Acknowledge his 28 years of excellent service to Contra Costa County and its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Tim, following senTice in the United States Air Force as a JAG officer,was initially hired by
the Contra Costa District Attorney's 0ffice.as a Deputy District Attorney on January 30, 1978 by
District Attorney William A. O'Malley;and
WHEREAS,_Jitn excelled in each of his assignITWOnts as a Dep ity:District Attorney which included
assignments in the Central-Eastern Operations Division, SuperiorFCourt Operations, and, most
Ilotably, the Special Operations Division,and:'Was promoted to.Seri:ior Deputy District Attorney on

duly 1, 1998;:and
WHEREAS, Jim, was assigned Deputy in Charge of the District Attorney Special:O,peratioris Division on
January 1, 1983 by-District Attorney William A. O'Malley. As Del uty'in Charge of the Division, he
was responsible for Consumer Protection.Prosecutions, Environmental Violation Prosecutions,
Political Corruption Prosecutions, and Brown Act Violation:::Prosecutioil.s: In recent years, his
responsibilities increased to include Real Estate.Fraud Prosecutions,` .6rkers Cornpensation Fraud
Prosecutioins,Auto Insurance Fraud Prosecutions, Elder Abiis-e Prosecutions and High"Tech Crime
Prosecutions. IIe regularly.advised and assisted the County C.ivil_Grand:;;Jury in its.Werations and
investigations. Jin-1 was:.the County's.recognized:expertan Elections Law' and the Brown Act. He
was regularly asked to::speak to community.and..busine"s;gri ups regarding recognizing and
protec....ting against fraud.,and.financial scams. Tim worked iIi tonluncdoni with the:Attorney
General's.Office and other Counties' District Attorney's Offices in prosecuting state-w do
Con$-Lirrier Protection:cascs and.%was regularly sought aut^u.y<�ther District Attorney Offices for his

expertise:in such cases. Ile wasAesignated a.Deputy Attgxney.General to successfully prosecute a
local Political Corruption case:.Jirn, even as head of th6 Special Operations Division, until the clay-
he yeti ed,.pe.rsonally managed Arid prosecuted a full caseload; and
WHEREAS, Jun,in addition to his professional demands,as.0.Deputy;;District Attorney, found the time
to help raise his two wonderful children, daughter Jessica and son Matt'and to meet and marry his
beautiful wife Sally with whom he is planning a Ionand enjoyable retirement traveling, enjoying
each other's company-:aril shin veling snow off their deck in Tahoe; and
WHEREAS,Jun has dedicated 28 years of outstanding.service to the citizens of Contra Costa County
through his tenure with the District Attorney's Office serving for Distrii t Attorneys O'INIalley,
Yancey and Kochly;
NOW,THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board takes great pleasuIrc in congratulating James
L. Sepulveda on his valuable service to the community and wish him many wonderful, exciting and
fulfilling years of retirement.
