SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION IRF.0 MMF.NDF,D ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to ACCEPT United Way of the Bay Area grant funds in an amount up to $10,000 for the Independent Living Skills Program (]:LSP) Graduation Resource Guide Binder Project for emancipating foster care youth for the term of January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006. (#29-231-0) F'iNANCiAi, IMPACT* EHSD to receive up to $10,000 from the United Way of the Bay Area grant funds. CMIL RFN'S IMPACT STATEMENT This contract will support two of the five community outcomes in the Children's Report Card, (2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; and, (5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of:Life for Children and Families" by providing information to encourage and assist youth in obtaining and maintaining self sufficiency. BOAC 'GROUND: The goal is to enhance the likelihood that youth will find the resources they need to establish and maintain self- sufficiency following emancipation. Emancipated youth and the Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) ILSP staff have developed an ILSP Graduation Resource Binder to assist in keeping youth connected and services available after emancipation. The binder contains resource listings of critical service providers for health care, transportation, housing, legal assistance and others; a CD containing important documents such as school transcripts, health and education information; resumes; ILSP staff contact information; an address book containing contact inforniation for peers and staff to facilitate networking and support; an 1.8-month calendar; gift cards essential for school and home stat-up such as books, kitchenware, furniture and clothing; and, inserts for additional personal information and photographs.
