ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL CONTRA COSTA DAY
IN HONOR OF THE ORGANIZATION'S
19TH ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER
WHEREAS,in September 1973 it was recognized that Black people in central Contra Costa needed an
avenue to join together,Ralph (Al) and Ada Henderson, Ralph and Norma Griffin,Joel and Vivian
Butler,Bill and Gloria Duncan,Travis and Phyllis McAfee, and Juanita Orr founded the Black
Families Association of Contra';C-'osta County,(and �
WHEREAS,it was acknowledged that theAsso tion foster an apprediation of Black cultural heritage,
pride, and digiutp;,arid provide-social interaction amongBlack resident sof the county; and

WHEREAS,it wasrdecided that the organization provided posirive expeence`f 6„Black youth by
enhancmg"the'ir kiiowledge'and�understanding of liow Historical and�currentXevents will influence
their future live

WHEREAS, a youth group was formed to serve as a source of suppor`--and'-socia l interaction; and
WHEREAS, there`is an increased awareness and participation inncivic, pon ical planning a+nd decision-

nfe" of people throughout the"county;and .
WHEREAS, the Blaek Families Association serves as a clearinghouse for general information and
