RECOGNIZING THE
EMPLOYEES OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
AND THE 2005 "COUNTIES CARE"HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County departments and employees enthusiastically rose to the challenge to raise funds
and food for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano during the 2005 holiday season;and
WHEREAS, the 3`d Annual Contra Costa County Cares Challenge,has become an essential part of the Food Bank of
Contra Costa and Solano's successful holiday fundraising program and this year raised funds and food equivalent to$70,288 or
135%of its goal,and
WHEREAS,the following departments and team leaders far exceeded their departmental goals of$7 per employee by
astronomical percentages of their department goals:
"MINI"DEPARTMENTS. TREASURER-TAX COLLECTOR,SUSAN CHAVEZ, TEAMLEADER;
SMALL DEPARTMENTS. COUNTY COUNSEL,MICHIELLEMAURER, TEAMLEADER;
MIDSIZED DEPARTMENTS:ASSESSOR,ROBINPEREZ, TEAM LEADER;
LARGE DEPARTMENTS:HEALTHSERVICES,MARYFo-RAN, TEAMLEADER;
SUPERVISORS'OFFICES.DISTRICT III,JULIET BLAKE, TEAM LEADER;and
WHEREAS,these departments showed special ingenuity and energy by earning awards in the following categories:
CLASS OF ITS OWN: COOPERA TIVE EXTENSION,LINDA WHALEN, TEAM LEADER
MOST IMPRO VED:_HEALTH SER VICES,MARY FORAN, TEAM LEADER
MOST CREATIVE MARKETING.BUILDING INSPECTION,PATTY COOKSON, TEAM LEADER
BARREL RACE:EMPLOYMENT AND HUMAN SER VICES,SHANNON O'CALLAHAN, TEAM LEADER;and
WHEREAS, this impressive generosity show: by employees of both Contra Costa and Solano counties will help the
Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in providing food to over 84,000 low-income residents of both counties throughout the
months to come;
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby applauds all
of the tirelessly working department leaders and congratulates all participating County departments for their inspired efforts oil
behalf of their community and those in need;and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County thanks all County employees
and residents for participating in the 2005 Counties Care Holiday Food Drive and urges all citizens of Contra Costa County
and their communities to recognize the merits and imperativeness of this cause and to give generously to the Food Bank of
Contra Costa and Solano throughout the year to come, including the 2006 Contra Costa County Cares Holiday Food Drive.
