SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 19871 adding two (2) Building Pian Checker I positions
and one 1 Grading Inspector I position in the Building Inspection Department as recommended by
the Human Resources Director.
ANNUAL & FISCAL IMPACT:
There are no net County Costs associated with these actions. These positions will be funded with
Permit Fees.
BACKGROUND:
The Building Inspection Department is requesting the addition of two (2) Building Plan Checker
positions and one (1) Grading Inspector I position to accommodate the need for additional Plan
Check and Grading Inspection staff in the Lamorinda Office. As a result of this addition, customer
service in the areas of permit issuance, fee collection and monitoring and completion of plan
checking and grading inspection functions will be provided in a timely manner to effectively manage
the high volume of customer service requests. The office currently has five (5) Building Inspectors,
but only has one (1) Grading Inspector and three (3) Building Plan Checkers allocated which causes
an imbalance in the workflow.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The addition of Building Plan Checker I positions and the Grading Inspector I position better serves
the needs of customers in the Lamorinda Office. If these positions were not to be added, the Building
Inspection will not have the staff available to manage customer service requests in a reasonable
amount of time.
