RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment olution Number 19880 to cancel one (1) vacant full-time Custodian II
position and add one (1) ful- I e Institutional Services Aide position in the Probation Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This action will result in a cost savings of$2070 for the County this fiscal year, due to the cancellation
of a Custodian II position.
BACKGROUND:
Probation and Local #1 reached an agreement on January 9, 2003 that allows the department to fill
Custodian II vacancies with Institutional Services Aides. This union represents the effected
classifications.
Adding an Institutional Services Aide (ISA) position will allow the department to expand resources
beyond custodial work and increase overall operational efficiency. The operational change will aide
the department in their efforts to maintain the safety and cleanliness of Juvenile Hall.
In addition to custodial work, the Institutional Services Aide will wash laundry; assist in inventory,
pricing and issuing of food to the kitchen; monitor food tickets involved in the purchase of food; and
be responsible for the shipping and receiving of food, supplies and equipment.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the Institutional Services Aide position is not added, the Probation Department will be unable to
provide services needed to maintain the safety and cleanliness of Juvenile Hall.
