i IN THE MATTER RECOGNIZING RESOLUTION NO. 2005/290 LINDSAY WILDLIFE MUSEUM'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY,AND DISTRICT 2 ARTISTS AFFILIATED WI'T'H LINDSAY WILDLIFE MUSEUM WHEREAS,Contra Costa County recognizes art passages: a collection of art from contra costa county as an exhibition program designed to create an opportunity for artists to show their work to a larger public, to increase community awareness of and familiarity with County artists,to form relationships with regional art organizations,and to attract potential buyers for County artists'work;and WHEREAS,The Arts&Culture:Coinmission of Contra.Costa County and+Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors are celebrating 1..;rxd.say Wildlife Museum's 50th Anniversary tls year by presenting an exhibition of artwork created by artists affiliated with ,indsay Wildlife`1Vluseum called,'The.,art of Keepin It mild;and WHEREAS,Lindsay Wildlife Museum vvas founded by Alexander"Sandy Ldsay,who started teaching children about nature in the early 1950s. Lindsay brought together parents to helpin.Us efforts and incorporated the Diablo Junior Museum Association in June1955 using:his..home........ Seven Hil1s..Ranch,a�.the first site of the museum:Jn 1965,with the help of the City.of Walnut geek, tl�e.nus_eum moved to an unoccupied 5,000 square foot water pump house in Walnut Creek's Larkey Park where Museum;acquied a permanent collection of live,non-releasable wild animals and.natural history objects.;People came to the museum to get Delp for injured and orphaned wild animals,and in 1970 a forma wildlife rehab .itatiori program was stated the first of its kind in the.United States. n-the early 19�O9 the�tnuse-ui~b and the community worked together to raise funds and..build a new 28,000 square foot building inhere.the museum,exhibits,non- re lasable void anit ials and the midlife rehabilitation hospital are currently housed,..and:: WHEREAS,Lndsay'G'ildlife 1Vltseum currently serves more than 140,QOO visitors each year,including 40,000 school cldre hin.Approximately 700 volLinteers_are active i the museum's urork'contributing more than 120,000 hours-of_service each year to education;midlife care museum operations, fundraising and outreach. The museum operates the oldest:and one of the largestdlife rehabtati? oh hospitals'gin the Untied States, treating:more than'x;000 injured end:orphanedd aivals each year,and WHEREAS,Individual artists are participating in the art j�assa es c istric�t 2`exh bit► n The Art ofKeeping.It Wild,includir g. Keep them wild. • Plant awildlife-friendly garden. • Keep your cat indoors. • Clean bird feeders and bird baths at least once a week. • Cut plastic can holders apart before disposing. of them. • Pick up litter and dispose of it properly. • Donate old magazines, books, toys and clothes for reuse. • Turn off lights, TVs and computers to save energy. • Participate in a habitat restoration or beach clean-up day. • Visit a zoo or nature center to learn more about wildlife. • Teach others about things you learned in this book. .
