BARRY, AICP County ou COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR %1�3 v, DATE: May 17, 2005 SUBJECT: RESOLUTION FOR BIKE TO WORK DAY 2005 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS ADOPT a resolution (see Exhibit A) proclaiming May 19, 2005 Contra Costa County Bike to Work Day. FISCAL IMPACT None BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS The objective of Bike to Work Day is to encourage County commuters to try bicycling to work on this occasion by offering a variety of events such as drawings for prizes and energizer stations throughout the County. Once individuals try bicycling to work it is hoped that they will continue to commute by bicycle to work one or more days a week. Bicycling is an excellent form of exercise, non-polluting and an energy efficient form of transportation. Contra Costa County is participating in events to help promote Bike to Work Day and encourage County employees and the general public to participate. Energizer stations providing refreshments and educational materials to Bike to Work Day participants will be located at the Martinez Amtrak station as well as at a variety of sites throughout the County. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON MAY 17, 2005, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
