In the Matter of RESOLUTION NO.2005/262
DECLARING MAY 22-28,2005 AS ELDER ABUSE PREVENTION WEED
IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
WHEREAS,the issue of elder abuse remains a largely hidden, underreported and
growing problem affecting one of the fastest`growing segments of the population, and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County is dedicated to preserving the safety and well-being
of all its inhabitants;, and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County operates'a 24-hour Adult Protective Services
program dedicated to investigating allegations of abuse or neglect of elderly persons or
dependent adults; and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County has a special elder abuse prosecution unit within the
District Attorney's office dedicated to bringing crimes against elderly victims to justice,
and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County is fortunate to have proactive community-based
resources, such as Elder Abuse Prevention,Inc. and the Elder Financial Protection
Network; and
WHEREAS, the issue of elder abuse requires continual community education,
awareness, and vigilance.
NOW,THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares the
week of May 22-28, 2005 as ELDER ABUSE PREVENTION WEEK in Contra Costa
County.
PASSED by a unanimous vote of the Supervisors present this 17th day of May 2005.
