RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING RESOLUTION NO. 2005/244
APRIL 23, 200S AS A DAY OF
TRIBUTE TO JOHN MUIR
WHEREAS, April 23, 2005 is the anniversary of the birth of John Muir 167 years ago; and
WHEREAS, John Muir has left a rich and enduring legacy as a naturalist, writer, conservationist, and
founder of the Sierra Club; and
WHEREAS, generations owe Jahn Muir a debt of gratitude whenever they visit Yosemite, the Sierra
Nevada or a national park; and
WHEREAS, John Muir is an inspiration and a role model to citizens who continue his work in
preservation, conservation, and education; and
WHEREAS, John Muir made his home in Martinez from 1890 to the time of his death in 1914 in a
14-room mansion that is part of an estate maintained by the National Park Service as a National
Historic Site; and
WHEREAS, John Muir is saluted each year in the production of"Mountain Days, the John Muir
Musical" in Martinez.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does
hereby declare Aprll 23, 2005 as a day of tribute to
