IN THE MATTER OF SUPPORTING RESOLUTION NO. 2005/228
2005 SUMMER.YOUTH INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, the Youth Council of the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County,Richmond
Works and the City of Richmond have formed a collaborative to address youth unemployment during
the summer of 2005;and
WHEREAS,providing work experience,jobs and internships for young people in the summer will allow
them to explore career.opportunities and attain the basic tools necessary to succeed in life;and
WHEREAS,positive opportunities direct young people away from negative and destructive behavior and
toward an appreciation for productive employment as well as fosterling self-esteem and confidence;
and
WHEREAS,engaging and involving businesses and employers through the 2{105 Summer Youth Initiative
will create a significant bond among these groups and the County's Worforce Boards;and
WHEREAS,employers will benefit from tax incentives,have the advantag0a pre-screened ready
workforce and receive positive public recognition foie their contributions to their communities;and
NOW,THEREVORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Board of'Supet-ulsors cif Contaa Costa County
supports the work done by the County's two Workforce Boards and their community partners in
pro iding j6bs,experience and internships for young people between the ages of 15 and 19;and
BE IT FURTHEA RE901" : D, that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County will publicly
acknowledge all employers and businesses that contribute to the success of the 2005 Summer Youth
Initiative;and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be distributed to all County departments and agencies
with the recommendation that if appropriate openings are available,consideration be given to the
placement of qualified young people from the 2005 Su` Youth Initiative.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON April 19,2005 by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
