FRED FIELDS ON HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS,Fred Fields is a third generation Boilermaker whose father was a construction Boilermaker; and
WHEREAS,Fred Fields graduated from high school in Napa,California and Napa Valley College; and
WHEREAS, Fred Fields began his Boilermaker Apprenticeship in 1964 at the Kaiser Steel shop in Napa and in
1966 transferred to the Western States Field Construction Apprenticeship program,graduating in 1970;
and
YMEREAS, Fred Fields has worked in all aspects of the Boilermaker trade, but whose first love has always
been heavy rigging. He has worked at,all 5Ba :area refineries and the major electrical power
generating plants in Northern California Arid has experlencd in both new construction and maintenance
jobs for local and national contractors; and
WHEREAS,Fred Fields 'was elected by Local 549 to four National Boilermaker Conventions where
International President Charles W.Jones appointed hien to.the Construction Division Committee. Fred
was elected to the executive Board of Local 549 in 1987 and,later Assistant Business Manager in 1990,
servin 1for 6 years.In 1995 he was elected Business>Manage.rlSecretary Treasurer and was re-elected in
1999; and
WHEREAS,Fred Melds was appointed by International President Janes in 1993 toy 86rve as trustee of the
Boilermaker National Health and Welfare Trust Fund,reprouting the 1 Western stags,and sits on the
executive board of the California State Building and Constructrotl Trad ' 0 ncil for the Boilermakers;
and
WHEREAMFred Fields has.helved Local 549 to participate inure fully in loc4an state government by
forming a:st tewide Boilermakers Political Action Committee alxd iti:1996 caitie;to appreciate the value
of working with C U.R.E. (California Unions for Re.liabl Ehergy)to-oreate°thousands`of new union jobs
in the:construction industry•, anis
WHEREAS,Fred F elds,h s tvi rttrtbuteti n1 t only the hoalth.aid welfare of his Unian`Brotllers and Sisters,but
to his coin munity arty our county as well.He has workel d.ttrelessly on.ibehalf,of needy families in Contra
Costa Coultty.throtlgh the Loaves and Fishes Program'the�hanksgiving program of the First Baptist
Church in Martinez,the Contra Costa Food Bank and the.Riichmond..Resciro Mission; and
NOW,THEREFORE,BEITIMSIOLD.that the Boardi of Supervisors of Contra Costa County recognizes
Fred Fields on the occasion of his retirel;ndliffor a life;of dedication to his chosen profession and his
fellow workers as well as to the people of'our County and wishes him well in all future endeavors.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON,March 15,2005,by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
