HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02082005 - 2005 RES 006 f In the Matter of Resolution No. 200516 RECOGNIZING AND HONORING LESLIE STE WART FOR SERVING AS THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY HAZARDOUS MATERIALS COMMISSION FOR TEN YEARS WHEREAS, Commissioner Leslie Stewart, representing the League of Women Voters, was a charter member of the Hazardous Materials Commission when it was formed in 1986;and WHEREAS, Commissioner Leslie Stewart has been Chairperson of the Hazardous Materials Commission since 1995 and served with distinction through 2004; and WHEREAS, During her tenure as Chairperson, the Hazardous Materials Commission provided valuable advice to the Board of Supervisors on many complex and contentious issues, most notably the creation and implementation of the County's Industrial Safety Ordinance and its predecessors; and WHEREAS, During her tenure as Chairperson, the.Hazardous Materials Commission facilitated public involvement in responding to industrial accidents, including the design and implementation of the safety culture study conducted at the.Avon Tosco refinery in 1999;and WHEREAS, Turing her tenure as Chairperson, Leslie Stewart led the Hazardous Materials Commission through a comprehensive process to author an Environmental Justice.Report in 2000 to the Board of Supervisors that paved the way for the adoption of the County's Environmental Justice policy; and WHEREAS, Leslie Stewart served as Chairperson of the Hazardous Materials Commission with integrity and commitment, creating a fair and inviting forum for discussion and debate, inclusive of all points of`view, with the aim of creating thoughtful and balanced recommendations. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby extends its sincere congratulations and heartfelt appreciation to Leslie Stewart for her ten ,years of service as chairperson of the Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials Commission. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this e day of February 2005.
