Activities under this contract Will provide access to computer technology empowering One Stop participants to effectively job search and obtain employment. BACKGROUND, The Contra Costa County Office of Education provides Internet access for six EASTBAY Works One Stop Career Centers in Contra Costa County and one in the City of Richmond connecting data circuits to the CCC Office of Education's Internet Network Center. Additionally, services include network monitoring and maintenance. Telephone line charges and Internet Access fees will be covered under this agreement. RA+C`KGROTTNDt The Multi-purpose Senior Service Program (MSSP), Linkages, Providing Assistance to Caregivers in Transition (PACT"), and Adult Protective Services (APS)provide communication devices to clients living alone or are alone for significant parts of the day and who have vision, hearing, or speech impairments or are at risk of institutionalization due to physical impairments likely to result in an medical emergency. Services include the rental/purchase'of mechanical or electronic devices, installation of a telephone, and purchase of an emergency response system. Identification bracelets or cards used to communicate vital client information in case of emergency may also be purchased. Bay Area Vital Link, Inc. was selected by a competitive procurement to provide communication devices and services to Area Agency on Aging(AAA)clients in July 2000. Services under this contract are provided to meet client's needs countywide. The Technical Skills Training Grant is intended to be a long-term solution to domestic skill shortages in high skill technology occupations. Targeted occupations include high technology, information technology and biotechnology. Activities provided under the grant will develop needed skills in software and communication services, telecommunications, systems installation and integration, computer and communication hardware, advanced manufacturing, health care technology, and biotechnology and biomedical research and manufacturing. Contractor will work directly with local employers in the area of information technology to identify training needs of incumbent workers and make appropriate training referrals to elevate the skills of the incumbent workers. The requested extension will allow services to continue through the term of thQ,gr-qnt funding. 4 r. BACKGROUND: PharmChem,Inc., which maintains the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration(SAMHSA)certification,provides substance abuse testing and test results documentation for clients referred by the County's Employment and Human Services Department(EHSD). Services include ensuring the availability of specimen collection sites located in the West, Central, and East regions of the County, screening test specimens using three different Laboratory Test Systems, providing"on-demand"sample testing when requested by the County's EHSD Social worker,providing Sweat Patch Testing to clients as an alternative to sample testing, and providing monthly statistics for clients referred to Substance abuse testing to the County's EHSD for each district office.
