Regents of the University of California,on behalf of University of California, San Francisco
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR REGOtd1MENDATiON(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION(S):
1. Rescind approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-341-2 with Regents of the
University of California, on behalf of University of California, San Francisco, which was
approved by the Board of Supervisors on April 6, 2004 (C.107).
2. Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee(Jeff Smith, MD)to execute
on behalf of the County, Contract Extension Agreement #26-341-2, to extend Unpaid Student
Training Agreement #26-341-1, with Regents of the University of California, on behalf of
University of California, San Francisco, a State educational institution, to provide field
instruction in the Health Services Department for the University's medical students, to extend the
term of the agreement through June 30,2005.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND/REASON(S)FOR RECOMMENDATION(S):
The purpose of this agreement is to provide Contractor's students with the opportunity to integrate
academic knowledge with application skills and attitudes at progressively higher levels of
performance requirements and responsibility, Supervised fieldwork experience for students is
considered to be an integral part of both the educational and professional preparation. The Health
Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, taking
advantage of the students' services to patients.
On April 6,2004, the Board of Supervisors approved Unpaid Student Training Agreement#26-341-2
with Regents of the University of California, on behalf of University of California, San Francisco
for the period from July 1, 2004 through June 30, 2007, The University, has requested that the
current Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-341-1 be extended through June 30, 2005, to
provide the University and County time to negotiate terms of a new Unpaid Student Training
Agreement, while still allowing students to receive supervised clinical experience at Contra Costa
Regional Medical Center and Clinics.
Approval of Contract Extension Agreement #26-341-2 will continue supervised clinical experience
for students enrolled at University of California, San Francisco through June 30, 2005.
