to Contra Costa County in the Communities )
of Pacheco and Martinez ) RESOLUTION NO. 2004/543
RWEREAS, Tony Calderon was born and raised in Martinez, California where he
graduated from.Alhambra High School; and
K ER AS, Tony Calderon began his career as a local businessperson in Pacheco at the age
of 18 years and has continued to work in this community since that time, including opening and
operating the Pacheco Town Barbershop for the past 14 years; and
9WEREAS, Tony Calderon initiated his community service and activism by joining the
Club Cultural Mexican to promote the historical and cultural significance of the local Mexican
American community. During his tenure with the Club. Cultural Mexican he was able to
successfully promote a parade honoring the Mexican American community; and
9WE.IR'EAS, Tony Calderon also investigated, initiated and brought to fruition, the concept
of designating the land donated by Don Ygnacio on Alhambra Avenue as a city park, and
participated in the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Don Ygnacio Plaza in 1976; and
WHEREAS Tony Calderon served on the Martinez Bi-Centennial Committee, the
Martinez Community Center Task Force and ran for the City Council of Martinez; and
9 EREAS; Tony Calderon joined the Pacheco Town Council in 1989 and revitalized
that body to successfully defeat a proposed annexation to Pleasant Hill, defeated a proposed
extension of Marsh Drive, secured the property and funding to build the Pacheco Community
Center, and won community support for the Pacheco Beautification Project; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors extends to
Tony Calderon special recognition for his outstanding and selfless service for the betterment of
the people in Contra Costa County in the communities of Pacheco and Martinez.
PASSED AND ADOP7El7 ON December 14, 2004 by a unanimous vote of the Board
members present.
