Harrison, M.D. SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTIO : Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, (Jeff Smith, M.D.), to execute on behalf of the County, Contract#76-519 with Steven A. Harrison, M.D., (Medical Specialty: Ophthalmology), a professional corporation, in an amount not to exceed $534,000, for the provision of professional Ophthalmology services to patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, for the period from April 12, 2004 through April 30, 2006. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded by Enterprise I Budget. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR REMNMENDATION(s): For a number of years the County has contracted with Medical and Dental Specialists to provide specialized professional services which are not otherwise available in its hospital and clinics. Under Contract#76-519, Steven A. Harrison, M.D. will provide Ophthalmology services to patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center including, but not limited to, consultation, medical procedures, on-call and clinical coverage for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, through April 30, 2006. Costs depend upon utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FQR-RECOMMENDATIONA-S): The Health Plan has an obligation to provide certain specialized professional health care services for its members under the terms of their Individual and Group Health Plan membership contracts with the County. In July 2003, the County Administrator approved and the Purchasing Services Manager executed Contract#27- 186-2 with Hiromi Takekuma,D.O., for the period from May 1, 2003 through April 30, 2004. Approval of Contract #27-186-3 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide professional primary care services to Health Plan members, through April 30, 2005. BACKGROUND/REASON(S)FOR REC0NMWNDATIQN(S): On April 15, 2003, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract#27-501-2 with Frank Lee, for the period from May 1, 2002 through April 30, 2004, to provide consultation and technical assistance to the Department with regard to the Health Plan's compliance with State, Federal and other regulatory agencies, including acting as a liaison between the Health Plan and State, Federal and other regulatory agency staff, assisting with reviews and audits to ensure compliance and researching of Federal and State legislation and regulations. Approval of Contract #27-501-3 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through April 30,2005. On June 24, 2003, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract#26--993-3 with Russell Schulze, M.D., to provide Orthopedic Surgery services, including, but not limited to, consultation, clinic coverage, training, and medical and/or surgical procedures, for Contra Costa Regional Medical' Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from June 1, 2013 through May 31, 2004. Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement#26-993-4 will allow Contractor to provide additional Orthopedic Clinics, due to the leave of one Orthopedic Surgeon, through May 31, 2404. As appropriate, patients and/or third-party payors will be billed for services., BACKGROLM/REASON(S) FOR RECOMM NDATIC3N(S): On March 11, 2003, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-315-1 with The Results Group, for the period from March 1, 2003 through February 28, 2005, for professional consultation services for County designated staff with regard to conflict resolution, interpersonal communication and team building, through February 28, 2005. Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26--315-2, will allow Contractor to provide additional hours of consultation services with regard to conflict resolution, interpersonal communications and team building, through February 28, 2005.
