HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04062004 - C35-C38 12 RESOLUTION TO DECLARE APRIL AS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH 2004 IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY RESOLUTION NO. 2004/152 WHEREAS, in California there were 10,176 forcible rapes reported in 2002; and WHEREAS, there were 207 forcible rapes reported in Contra Costa County in the same year with an increasing number affecting adolescence; and WHEREAS, it is estimated by the Bureau of Justice Statistics that over;74%of rapes are never reported to police; and WHEREAS, women, children and men of all ethnic and economic backgrounds are victims of sexual assault, and it is estimated that one in three women, one in four girls, one in six boys, and one in eleven men will be victims at least once in their lifetimes; and WHEREAS, women, children, and men suffer multiple types of sexual violence including acquaintance rape, stranger rape, sexual assault by an intimate partner, gang rape, incest, stalking, serial rape, ritual abuse, sexual harassment, child sexual molestation,prostitution,pornography, and stalking, and WHEREAS, women, children, and men in Contra Costa have the right to be safe from sexual violence in their homes, at school, at work and the streets; and WHEREAS, Community Violence Solutions is committed to ending sexual violence in Contra Costa and provides essential victim, Sexual Assault Response Team and prevention services to members of our community; and WHEREAS, it is our responsibility to support rape survivors by treating-_them with dignity, compassion, and respect; and hold perpetrators responsible for these violent acts; and WHEREAS, the State of California recognizes April as Sexual Assault Awareness.Month. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Board ofSupervisors of Contra Costa County, hereby designates that the month of April be Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Contra Costa County and reaffirms its commitment to address the issues of rape and sexual assault in our County by acknowledging the work of Community Violence Solutions and its Rape Crisis program in its efforts to stop these horrific' crimes against our citizens. IN THE MATTER OFRECOGNIZING ) the contributions of Mickey Davis on her ) Retirement from Contra Costa County ) RESOLUTION NO. 2004/153 WHEREAS, Mickey Davis began her career with Contra Costa County on December 26, 1972 as a' temporary employee and worked as a Group Counselor with the Social Services Department from July 1974 to December 1983,when she was promoted to Eligibility Worker; and WHEREAS, in 1985 Mickey was promoted to Deputy Probation Officer with the Probation' Department; and promoted to Administrative Services Assistant III in 1986; and WHEREAS, on September 7, 1989 she transferred to the General Services Department to serve as an Administrative Services Assistant III; and on March 1, 1993 Mickey was promoted to Administrative Services Officer; and subsequently promoted to Deputy General Services Director on August 6,2001; and WHEREAS during her tenure with the General Services Department and Contra Costa County, Mickey has applied a wide variety of skills to the various positions she has held and used her knowledge and broad range of experience to provide outstanding customer service and innovative' management solutions; and WHEREAS, Mickey has consistently provided excellent support to the General Services' Department and undertaken new assignments without hesitation and with considerable interest and vigor; she has routinely handled a large and complex workload using tact and persuasiveness;with a high degree of enthusiasm and integrity; and WHEREAS, Mickey performs her work for the General Services Department and the County with a personal commitment to integrity and honesty; is knowledgeable, tenacious, conscientious and dedicated; and WHEREAS, Mickey willingly and enthusiastically works beyond the scope of her job' classification, using her depth of institutional knowledge, her strength of character, straightforwardness and the respect she has earned over the past 31 years and applies them to all areas of County business; and WHEREAS, Mickey exemplifies the caliber of employee that puts Contra Costa County in the forefront of good government; and WHEREAS, Mickey has earned the privilege of retiring to pursue all and any personal interests with her husband, Joe Davis. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS BY THE BOARD RESOLVED THAT Mickey Davis be recognized for over 31 years of dedicated service to Contra Costa County and for the high quality of work performed by her during her career. By Deputy Clerk RESOLUTION NO.2004/153 In the Matter of Declaring } � 3(7 April 18 to April 24 as SaferyBeltt�Safe U.S.A. ) RESOLi_MON NO. 2004/150 WHEREAS the number one preventable cause of death and injury of children and young adults is the automobile collision; and WHEREAS approximately 150 children under sixteen are killed and over 24,000 injured in automobile collisions each year in California; and U ERLU up to 71% of these children would be alive today if they had been properly restrained in crash-tested car safety seats or safety belts; and WHEREAS infants and young children are not capable of initiating action to use proper restraints and are not protected adequately by automatic belts or air bags use; and RWERE4S only about 60% of children in this age group are protected by regular restraint use; and WHEREAS crash-tested safety seats are moderately priced and widely available for purchase at retail stores and at low cost from car safety seat distribution programs throughout California; and HIHEREAS the State of California has ruled that until children are both six years of age or sixty pounds or more, they must be restrained in child safety seats when riding in motor vehicles and that all other occupants must use safety belts; and 4WERE4S the goal of SafetyBekSafe U.S.A. is to ,further the right of every child to protection from injury or death while being transported in a motor vehicle: NOW, THEREFORE, BE ITRESOL VED that the Board of Supervisors does hereby declare safety seat checkup week April 18 to April 24, 2004.
