HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03092004 - C.26 In the Matter of RESOLUTION NO. 2004/31 FOSTERING SISTER COUNTY RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A.,AND THE COUNTY OF TAICHUNG, TAIWAN, REPUBLIC OF CHINA Whereas, Contra Costa County established sister county relationships in the early 1980's with Taichung County by Supervisor Bob Shioder of District III, and Whereas,Contra Costa County last hosted a delegation from Taiwan and Taichung County on April 15, 1999; and Whereas,Supervisor John`Gioia will be traveling to Taiwan in March of 2004 to exchange ideas,and enhance diplomatic support through a program sponsored by the Association of Bay Area Governments called."the Sustainable Development Workshop; and Whereas,the;goal of the Sustainable Development Workshop is to being to global policy- makers io share common ideas and concepts about issues such as urban growth,protecting the environment, and economic planning; and Whereas,Supervisor Gioia will also be visiting other cities,counties and agencies including Taichung City,Taipei City,Tainan County,Kinmein County,the Chinese-American Environmental Protection Association, and the Council for Economic Planning and Development; and Whereas, Contra Costa County recognizes-the importance of fostering the exchange of artistic, commercial,cultural,educational,and technological activities among governments and communities in a global area.. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisorsof Contra Costa County, California, U.S.A., does hereby authorize Supervisor John Gioia to re-establish sister county relationships with the County of Taichung,Taiwan, Republic of China.
