ARTISTS AND ARTS ORGANIZATONS: THE LAMORINDA ARTS ALLIANCE
AND PLEXN.AI.R ARTISTS FROM CREEC'S SOENE ON THE STRAIT
ART AND ENVIRONMENTAL FESTIVAL RESOLUTION NO. 2004/114
WHEREAS,Contra Costa County recognizes art passages. collections of art from contra costa county
exhibition program designed to create an opportunity for artists to show their work to a larger public, to know and be
known in the larger community,to form relationships with regional art organizations and to attract potential buyers for
their work;and
WHEREAS,The Lamorinda Arts Alliance is an organization of artists and friends who reside or work in the
communities of Lafayette, Moraga and Urinda. L.AA's purpose is to nurture art appreciation in the community through
education and involvement in the arts; to create a network of artists in Contra Costa County in order to pursue artistic
excellence, provide mutual support and share technical information;to educate and showcase the visual arts to
Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda and the larger community through art demonstrations, hands on art experiences, open
studios, art festivals and galleries open to the public;to collaborate with other arts organizations in order to integrate
the visual arts into the fabric of the community;to support charitable causes in the community and to create venues for
artists to exhibit their work including through the Moraga Art Gallery;and
WHEREAS, The Lamorinda Arts Alliance members Zarmine Aghazarian, Inge Behrens, Karen Blum
Boateng, Barbara Davis, Barbara Falconer, Diane Hurst, Charity Huss,Ann Kazala, Roswitha Kress, Dixie Lewis, Irene
Needoba,Wenda Pyman, Diana Smith, Mary Spain,Tom White,and Roz Zinns are participating in the exhibition
ATMOSPHERES: The Lamorinda Arts Alliance; and
WHEREAS, Scene on the Strait is an annual art and environmental festival held each year in August at the
Martinez Regional Park as a benefit for CREEL the Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center. CREEL is an
all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that works with students and disadvantaged youth in the communities that line the
Carquinez Strait. CREEC's mission is to help restore the native plants and animals that lived there,while gaining real life
skills and a new sense of community ownership; and
WHEREAS, Scene on the Strait features an art show and sale of Plein Air painters' artwork, several of whom
are showcased in the exhibition PLEIN INSPIRATION. Scent Can The Strait and throughout Contra Costa
County, including artists Robert Chapla, Ramona Kennon, Norma Webb, as well as two artists from the private
collection of B.A. Simmons: Kevin Courter and Mary Lou Correia; and
WHEREAS,these two exhibitions celebrate the beauty of Contra Costa County's natural and built
landscapes, and are shown here in honor of Earth Day 2004;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County does hereby declare that the above artists and arts organizations and the landscapes they depict as treasures of
our county, and urges residents to continue to support the artistic and environmental endeavors of these individuals and
organizations.
