The Department has been providing the City services since 1969 in the areas of plan review, counter services, inspections, and zoning violation investigations. The existing Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement allows the Department to collect permit fees directly from customers. The permit fees are utilized to cover costs associated with the delivery of building inspection, plan review and counter services to the residents of Lafayette. However, the latest request of services is expected to be a one-time occurrence. The project is limited in duration and the Department will be reimbursed for personnel costs at an hourly rate of $70. This service enhancement will require temporary reassignment of one employee, but the Department does not anticipate the need to permanently augment the Department staffing level. The incumbent will be designated as a Project Building Inspector (PBI) and will assist City Staff on the construction of the Veterans Memorial Hall. The PBI will oversee and inspect work by contractors and subcontractors relative to code compliances and will help coordinate various aspects of the project. The contract language and scope of work has been reviewed and approved by the County's Disk Management and County Counsel's Office. Contra Costa County Building Inspection Department will provide services consistent with the guideline and procedures of the City of Lafayette and applicable codes. The Department will work closely with the City's Community Development Department in the implementation of the building inspection services.
