ALBERT, DIRECTOR OF GENERAL SERVICESCOSTA DATE: MARCH 23, 2004 COUNTY SUBJECT: REQUEST TO PURCHASE THREE TRUCKS AND TEN el TRAILERS FOR THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT SPECIFIC REOUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to purchase three trucks and ten trailers for the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. FINANCIAL IMPACT The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is purchasing three trucks ($126,164) and ten trailers ($62,056). The purchase will be initially funded through the Fire Protection District and then reimbursed from Homeland Security Grants. BACKGROUND The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is purchasing three trucks and ten trailers. The trailers will be used to store and transport equipment and supplies and the trucks will be used to transport the trailers. The 2003 Homeland Security Grant will be used to fund the trucks and five of the trailers ($157,192) and the 2002 Homeland Security Grant will fund the other five trailers ($31,026). These vehicles were not on the Master list for Vehicle Replacement in FY 2003/04. In accordance with Administrative Bulletin No. 508: "County Vehicle and Equipment Acquisition and Replacement Policy with Guidelines," approval is requested for the purchase of the vehicles. Based on a review of the need for the new vehicles and consideration of alternative fueled vehicles, the Fleet Manager recommends approval of this request. This request has been reviewed and approved by the County Administrator for consideration by the Board of Supervisors. Four(4) assigned to fire agencies are red and one assigned to the Sheriffs office is black. These vehicles will store and transport equipment and supplies purchased with past grant funds. The four(4) fire agency trailers will be equipped with decontamination equipment and the Sheriffs trailer with law enforcement equipment.
