SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION:, APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to EXECUTE an amended contract with Alzheimer's Disease&Related Disorders Association(#40-160-3) for additional funding for Title III E Family Caregiver Support Program increasing the amount by$10,000 from $24,000 to a new contract payment limit of$34,000 during the period July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004. BACKGROUND: The Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association provides Family Caregiver Support Program services funded by the Title III E OAA to provide comprehensive support services to families in the greatest economic and social need and who are coping with Alzheimer's and related disorders. Services augment the ability to identify, outreach, and provide a continuum of care services to frail caregivers. Services include outreach,helpline, community education, assessment, counseling, caregiver support group, and training. Outreach services reduce barriers to ethnically diverse families by providing multicultural and multilingual written materials and collaborating with multicultural agencies in Contra Costa County. OTO funds for services under this contract will support existing program services such as expansion of program library, community education equipment, respite scholarships, and safe return scholarships for persons with dementia.
