GILBERTT, DIRECTOR OF GENERAL SERVICES COSTA DATE: MAY B, 2003 COUNTY SUBJECT: REQUEST TO PURCHASE A SPORT-UTILITY VEHICLE (TWO- t...j WHEEL DRIVE) FOR THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION 1. APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fleet Manager to purchase a sport-utility vehicle (two-wheel drive) for the Probation Department. 2. AUTHORIZE the attached appropriation adjustment for this purchase. FINANCIAL IMPACT The Probation Department is adding a sport-utility vehicle, which will be purchased with grant funds from the Governor's Office of Criminal Justice-Victim/Witness Program. BACKGROUND The estimated cost to purchase the utility vehicle is $22,397. The vehicle will be used to transport clients to and from court proceedings. This vehicle is not on the Master List for Vehicle Replacement in FY 200203. Therefore, in accordance with Administrative Bulletin No. 508: "County Vehicle and Equipment Acquisition and Replacement Policy with Guidelines," approval is requested for the purchase of this vehicle. Based on a review of the need for the new vehicle and Consideration of alternative fueled vehicles, the Fleet Manager recommends approval of this request. This request has been reviewed and approved by the County Administrator for consideration by the Board of Supervisors.
