PR.2 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Date: May 20, 2003 Matter of Record Subject: Presentation of the First Annual Contra Costa Mental Health Commission Awards On this date the Board heard from Bettye Randle, {organization Development Committee, made a presentation to several individuals that have made a positive impact on mental health services in Contra Costa County. FIRST ANNMI.L MENTAL HEALTH commissiom AWARDS The Contra Costa Mental Health Commission is recognizing outstanding individuals and programs that have made a positive impact on mental health services in Contra Costa County. Each Committee of the Commission was asked to present one individual and one program for recognition. The Children's Committee chose Susan Waters and Kathy Davison for their work with Family Partners; and the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) for its pet therapy program with Chris Adams Center for Girls. The Criminal Justice Committee chose Concord Police Officer Mike von Savoye for his sensitivity and outstanding work as a street officer while acting as a liaison for mental health services for chronic offenders who have mental health issues; and the Forensics Multidisciplinary Team under the direction of Candace Kunz-Tao and John Allen for their involvement with the street police officers in seeking solutions and services for the chronic offenders who have mental health issues. The Older Adult Committee chose Ken Salonen for his work as a mental health liaison with Aging and Adult Services; and Senior Peer Counseling for their efforts on the Annual Depression Screening Day. The Transitional Age and Adult Programs Review Committee (a recently combined committee) was asked to pick an individual and program who dealt with transitional age issues, and an individual and program who dealt with adult mental health issues. The Transitional Age recipients are Radhika Miles for her ongoing commitment to transitional age youth ; and Mental Health Vocational Services for their continued commitment to helping transitional age youth. The Adult recipients are Tonia Tapia for her dedicated service at Nierika House; and the Phoenix Programs for their work with vocational and housing issues.
