HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05202003 - PR1 r •1 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Resolution on May 20, 2003, by the following vote: AYES: SUPERVISORS UILKEMA, GLOVER & DeSAULNIER NOES: NONE ABSENT: SUPERVISOR GIOIA ABSTAIN: NONE DISTRICT III IS VACANT Resolution No. 20030333 Subject: DESIGNATING THE ) WEEK OF MAY 18-24, 2003 } EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK) WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to highlight public access defibrillation programs and education as being highly important to the survival and well-being of patients suffering cardiac arrest; and WHEREAS, emergency medical services teams consist of emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, emergency medical dispatchers, EMS educators, EMS administrators, and others; and WHEREAS, Americans benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of these highly trained individuals; and WHEREAS, injury prevention health and education will help the public to assist the EMS teams save lives in our community; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares the week of May 18-24, 2003, Emergency Medical Services Week, and encourages the community to become involved in cardiac care including public access defibrillation and to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
