SPECIFIC REQ IEST(S)'OR RECOMMENDATION(s)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMM ON(S) :
Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee
(Kathryn Grazzini) to execute on behalf of the County, Unpaid
Student Training Agreement ##26-209-4 with the University of the
Pacific for its Department of Physical Therapy, an educational
institution, for the period from July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2006,
for the provision of clinical and field experience for graduate
physical therapy students.

BACKGROUNI)IREASbN(S) FOR RECOMME1MATION(S) :
On June 20, 2000, the Board of Supervisors approved Unpaid Student
Training Agreement ##26-209-3 with the University of the Pacific for
its Department of Physical Therapy to provide the University' s
students with field education in physical therapy at Contra Costa
Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers (CCRMC) .
Supervised clinical, and field work experience is considered to be
an integral part of both educational and professional preparation.
As a teaching- hospital, CCRMC can provide the requisite field
education, while at the same time, taking advantage of the students'
services to patients.
Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-209-4 will allow
students enrolled at the University of the Pacific to continue
receiving clinical and field experience in physical therapy through
June 30, 2006 .
