Eisenhower in 1956 as a people-to-people post WWII peace program based on the idea that citizen diplomacy might reduce the chance of future world conflict;and WTI REAS, the Sister Cities International prsogzarn provides an opportunity for local citizens to expand their cultural, educational, civic and economic horizons and has grown into an international network of 3,500 cities in 156 countries;and LI Ric; KathyandJerryHrrks have worked tirelessly to forge international friendships between the city of Walnut Creek and Noceto, Italy and the city of Walnut Creek and Siofok, Hungary;and 91THREA$ Kathy and Jerry Hicks were part of a delegation in 2001 that visited both Italy and Hungary taking part in ceremonies to strengthen the ties of friendship and expand cultural exchanges;and WHEREAS; Kathy and JerryMcks helped bring the Siofok's Children Choir to Walnut Creek;are now helping to bring that cities children's soccer team to Walnut Creek, and are helping to arrange for Noceto's children soccer team to come to Walnut Creek;and U-THREA,S, Kathy Hicks has served on the Walnut Creek City Council for nine years, has been Mayor twice and continues to be active in a variety of community programs including the International Sister City program, the Creek Restoration program and is a supporter of the Diablo Symphony;and WflERFA$Jerry cks,a retired airline pilot,gives of his time and energy to support community efforts including the International Sister City program, the Walnut Creek Foundation for Youth and is a supporter of the Diablo Symphony; NOW, THEREF©RE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors recognizes Kathy andfe tyJWdyfor their commitment to International Friendship and to strengthening communities both at home and abroad.
