IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING RESOLUTION NO. 2003/240
the contributions of Ken Arentz
on his retirement from
Contra Costa County
WHEREAS Ken Arentz began his career with Contra Costa County on January 13, 1974
working for the Buildings and Grounds Division of the Public Works Department; and
WHEREAS Ken transferred to the Maintenance division as a laborer in 1983 where he was
recognized as a conscientious worker, who used very little sick leave and made the extra effort
needed to complete his assigned tasks; and
WHEREAS Ken availed himself of training opportunities offered by the Public Works
Department and promoted to Equipment Operator I in 1986; and
WHEREAS Ken took supervision training courses to expand his abilities and promoted to
Specialty Crew Leader in 1989 and finally to Public Works Maintenance Supervisor in 1992; and
WHEREAS Ken always took pride in the productivity and the quality of work accomplished by
him and his crew; and
WHEREAS Ken and his crew received the Department of Public Work's "Award of Excellence"
in October 1998, September 1999, December 2002 and January 2003; and
Whereas Ken was nominated for the "J. Michael Watford Project Manager of the Year Award" in
2001 for the Briones Valley Bridge replacement project;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors
does hereby honor Ken Arentz for his 29 years of service on the occasion of his retirement and
gives full appreciation for his dedicated service to the Public Works Department, the
Maintenance division, and to the people of this County.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on this
15th day of April, 2003
