In the Matter of Honoring
Chief Assistant Public Defender,Bill Egan
To Commemorate His Retirement RESOLUTION NO.2003/253
WHEREAS,Bill Egan was.born in Walnut Creek and attended Contra Costa County schools for his
secondary education; and
WHEREAS, Bi11 Egan served in the United States Navy upon his graduation from the University of
Washington;.and
WHEREAS, Bill Egan graduated from Boalt Hall Law School at the University of California at
Berkeley; and
WHEREAS, Bill Egan began his career as an attorney in the Contra Costa County Office of the
Public Defender on June 11, 1975; and
WHEREAS, Bill Egan has served as an attorney in every capacity.in the Office of the Public
Defender and provided representation to thousands of indigent defendants in the Courts of Contra
Costa County over the past 26 years; and
WHEREAS, Bill Egan:has`contributed to the management team in the Department for many yyears
including responsibility.for.supervision and oversight of the Special Defense Branch within the
Office of the Public Defender over the past five years; and
WHEREAS,Bill Egan has handled some of the most serious cases in the Office of the Public
Defender and-done so with vigor and commitment in the most trying circumstances a trial lawyer
can confront;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra
Costa acknowledges and thanks Bill Egan for his dedicated service to the Office of the Public
Defender, the clients of that.Office and the people of this County on the occasion of his retirement
as an employee of Contra Costa County.
PASSED and ADOPTED by a unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members resent this
