(District 11) Specific Request(s)or Recommendation(s)&Background&Justification 1. Recommended Action: APPROVE Thompson Lane Reconstruction project contingency fund increase of$25,000 for a new total of$53,412 and APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute Contract Change Order No. 5 with Fanfa, Inc., effective April 15, 2003, in an amount not to exceed $16,000 to a new payment limit of $182,760, for unforeseen extra work. 11. Financial impact: The project contingency funds are currently insufficient to cover the increased cost. The increase in contingency funds will be funded by Measure C Funds. Reasons for Recommendations and Background: Additional funding is needed to pay the contractor for unforeseen extra work. The contractor removed unsuitable material, removed a roadway section with extra thick asphalt concrete, constructed additional drainage inlets, and placed additional aggregate base. Approval of the project contingency fund increase is required to compensate the contractor for the extra work. IV. Consequences of Negative Action: The lack of approval would prevent successful completion of this contract and preclude payment to the contractor for required work.
