In the Matter of RESOLUTION NO. 2003/175
HONORING RICHMOND FIRE INSPECTOR RICHARD KALAYJIAN FOR HIS DEDICATION
AND COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING THE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND'
Whereas, Inspector Kalayjian began his fire fighting career in 1969 in the City of Compton; and.
Whereas, in 1971,Inspector Kalayjian was hired by the Richmond .Fire Department; and
Whereas, in his 32 years with the Richmond Fire Department, Inspector Kalayjian has received
numerous commendations for his quick thinking and life saving skills in emergency situations;and
Whereas,Inspector Kalayjian has been an active member of the Local 188 Firefighters Union,serving
more than 20 years as Secretary/Treasurer;and
Whereas, Inspector Kalayjian has forged a close working relationship with community groups and
agencies such as the West Contra Costa Unified School District,Richmond Neighborhood Councils,
Senior Croups, Nuevo Mundo, and the Laotian Community as the Fire Prevention Bureau's Public
Education Officer;and
Whereas, Inspector Kalayjian was instrumental in developing and implementing the Department's
public education corporate sponsorship program called "Fire Safe Richmond;" and
Whereas,Inspector Kalayjian is being honored as the 2002 Fire Fighter of the Year by the Richmond-
San Pablo Exchange Club.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
honors and commends Richmond Fire Inspector Richard Kalayjian for his strong commitment to
serving and protecting the residents and communities in the City of Richmond.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on this
18th day of March, 2003
