FOR 4S YEARS OF SERVICE TO ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WHEREAS,Las Trampas,Inc. has a long history of responding to the needs of the community for the care of a population with special needs. In the late 1950's parents and community members raised the funds to purchase the Helen Lucas School for mentally retarded children and young adults in Lafayette; and WHEREAS,Las Trampas,Inc. was founded as a non-profit residential school in 1958. In 1967,new facilities were built doubling the number of residents and creating a community day school for the moderately to severely retarded; and WHEREAS,Las Trampas,Inc., in the early 106'8-became-part of a State project to demonstrate the programmatic and financial feasibility of people with severe disabilities living in their own homes or apartments with adequate staff support; =d WHEREAS, Las Trampas,Inc. was so successful in this program that many of the men and women successfully learned how to develop their own relationships, make responsible choices and become important residents in their cetnutiify; and WHEREAS,I;as Trarnpas, Inc. has created an environment of satisfaction, confidence, enjoyment and has helped to estalAfih Bang-term relationships.
