SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY EIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT TO PROVIDE LIGHT- DUTY VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR SPECIFIC RE U ST(5j OR RECOMM -45AXTION(S)'&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECQMMENDATION I. APPROVEa Service Agreement between the General Services Department and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, which will consolidate maintenance'and repair services for the Fire District's light-duty vehicles into the General Services Fleet Division. 2. AUTHORIZE the Director of General Services and the Assistant Chief' of the Fire Protection District to execute the Service Agreement and to implement:the fleet maintenance and repair services in accordance with the terms and conditions specified in the Service Agreement. FINANCIAL IMPACT There are no financial impacts associated with 'approval of the recommended action. The cost for services,provided by the General Services Fleet Division will be billed through the County finance system on a monthly basis. BACKGROUND In December 2000, the Board of Supervisors authorized General:,Services to engage a professional consultant to 'review practices and„procedures of the County's Fleet operation to demonstrate competitiveness and improve efficiency. In January 2002, on the recommendation of the Internal Operations Committee, the Board of Supervisors accepted the Fleet Management Study provided by the consultant, Spectrum Consultants Inc. General Services and Fire Protection District staff have evaluated the feasibility of the recommended consolidation and concluded that it is operationally practical and will result in added'efficiencies for the Fleet Division and the District. Therefore, a Service Agreement has been prepared to enable the Fleet Division of the General Services Department to provide comprehensive fleet maintenance, repair, and related support- services for the District. The agreement includes 69 of the Fire District's vehicles comprised of. sedans, pickup trucks, and vans. It does not include the Fire District's heavy equipment and specialty' vehicles.
