HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06052001 - C.94 y e__ y =��' `U-=•_••, Contra TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS - Costa FROM: John Cullen, Director 9: Employment and Human Services Department County r�•COUR DATE: April 30, 2001 SUBJECT: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to contract with both Ms. Cheryl Sanderson Boshers (#21-596-2) and Ms. Judi Gibson (#21-595- 2) in the amount of$47,500 each for full-time early intervention outreach services, for the period from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002. SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION_ APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to contract with both Ms. Cheryl Sanderson Boshers (#21-596-2) and Ms. Judi Gibson (#21-595-2) in the amount of$47,500 each for full-time early intervention outreach services, for the period from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002. FINANCIAL IMPACT- Total County cost for these two contracts will be $ 14,250 (15%), with a combination of federal, state and CalWorks funds covering the remaining contract costs of$80,750 (85%). CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT- This contract directly supports all five community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; "Families that are Economically Self-Sufficient"; "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families." Early intervention outreach specialists provide support to those with substance abuse problems, ensuring that parents secure appropriate services in addition to substance abuse treatment, which may include child development education, parenting classes, and understanding the Child Welfare System. RACKGROI)ND- Ms Boshers and Ms Gibson were selected in March 1999, after an extensive recruitment process by the Employment and Human Services Department. Since that time, Ms Boshers and Ms Gibson have provided these services to the Employment and Human Services Department. Both individuals have demonstrated the specialized skills required for the Early Intervention Outreach Specialist positions. Therefore, Employment and Human Services wishes to continue to contract for these specialized services throughout the next fiscal year.
