1. Project positions requested: Senior Health F,ducation Specialist
2. Explain specific duties of position(s):
• Interacts tit-ith public; responds to data requests from Contra Costa County residents and community
groups.
• 61'rites scientific reports, conducts analyses, and interprets findings and displays results.
• Designs and implements evaluation tools/instrutnents.
• Uscs DOS, Windows, SPSS, and Microsoft Office software in researching and writing local reports.
• Presents evaluation/research findings to diverse audiences.
• Researches health topics using the Internet, online libraries, and databases.
3. Name/purpose of project and funding source (do not use acronyms, i.e. SB40 Project or SDSS
Funds). The Community Wellness and Prevention Program consists of several grant-funded projects
designed to prevent injury and chronic disease and promote healthy communities. Projects include:
- Family Violence prevention - Childhood Injury Prevention
- Breast Cancer early detection - Hunger Prevention
- Healthy Neighborhoods - Bicycle Safety
- Tobacco Prevention - Lead Poisoning Prevention
The creation of this position will eliminate a contract position presently providing this service.
4. Duration of the project: Start Date: 10/1/01 End Date: Ongoing Project support
Is funding for a specified period of time (i.e., 2 years) or on a year-to-year basis? Please explain.
This position is funded through a variety of Community Wellness ct'_ Prevention Program's projects.
These projects include Tobacco Prevention, Breast Cancer Prevention, Lead Poisoning Prevention,
It jury Prevention and rood& Nutrition. Host of these projects have been supported though external
funding sources for over 10 years. These non-county finding streams are expected to continue.
