HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06052001 - C.125 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FROM: William Walker, M.D. , Health Services Director Contra By: Ginger Marieiro, Contracts Administrator .__ • : o Costa DATE: May 16, 2001 °sra c6irN�`� County SUBJECT: Approval of Contract #22-456-10 with Center for Human Development SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S) : Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D. ) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #22-456-10 with Center for Human Development, in an amount not to exceed $85, 500, for the period from July 1 , 2001 through June 30 , 2002 , to provide HIV/AIDS education and prevention services to youth at increased risk for HIV infection. FISCAL IMPACT• This Contract is funded 100% by the State Department of Health Services, Office of AIDS . No County match is required. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This Program supports County' s "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood" community outcome by providing educational presentations at schools and youth-serving organizations to help youth delay sexual involvement and avoid infection with HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) . Expected program outcomes are increased knowledge of HIV transmission and prevention; increased abstinence and/or safer sex; reductions in the numbers of unplanned pregnancies and STD/HIV infections; and reductions in health care costs associated with treating STDs including HIV and AIDS . BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S) : The Center for Disease Control and the State Office of AIDS have mandated the County Health Department to create a HIV Prevention Planning Group (HPPG) to guide local prevention efforts . County' s AIDS program incorporates HPPG recommendations to provide HIV prevention services through local agencies . This Contract meets the social needs of the population in that it provides education and prevention services to reduce HIV and other STDs among County' s at-risk population. On July 18 , 2000, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-456-9 with Center for Human Development, for the period from July 1 , 2000 through June 30 , 2001, to provide HIV/AIDS education and prevention services for young men who are at increased risk for HIV. Approval of Contract #22-456-10 will allow Contractor to continue to provide HIV/AIDS education and prevention services to youth who are at increased risk for HIV through June 30, 2002 .
