SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE CHILD CARE CONTRACT WITH THE
CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
Specific Request(S) or Recommendation (S) & Background and Justification
I . RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Community Services Director or designee, to
execute and submit State Standard Agreement GCTRA 035 (County 39-809-
17) for full-day General Center Based Child Care Program Services with the
California Department of Education for a total maximum reimbursable amount
of$4,616,255 for the period from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002.
I I . FINANCIAL IMPACT:
No County funding is required. This contract is funded through the California
Department of Education and is included in the Community Services
Department's budget for FY 2001-02.
III . CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Community Services Department Child Development Program supports
two of Contra Costa County's community outcomes: "Children Ready for and
Succeeding in School" and "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing."
These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including
high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health to low-income
children throughout Contra Costa County.
iv. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
On August 15, 2000, the Board approved State Agreement GCTR-1035
(County 39-809-15) with the California Department of Education to provide
valuable child care and preschool services. Contracts are renewed annually
until either the County or the State decides to terminate funding. Approval of
this funding will enable the County to continue to provide general childcare and
state preschool services to program eligible children residing in the County
from July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002.
These contracts will be reviewed and approved as to form by County Counsel
prior to submission to the State.
