RESOLUTION HONORING THE 25TH RESOLUTION NO. 2001/236
ANNIVERSARY OF THE MARTINEZ.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY
WHEREAS, THE MARTINEZ HISTORICAL SOCIETY was created in 1973 to save the 1890 cottage
and its site, now known as the "Martinez Museum", to preserve the city of Martinez' history; and
WHEREAS, THE MARTINEZ HISTORICAL SOCIETY obtained a lease from the Contra Costa
College District and took possession in February of 1974. It took 15 months to finally open the building during
the city of Martinez' 100`t' birthday party and the Nation's 200th birthday celebration
WHEREAS, THE MARTINEZ HISTORICAL SOCIETY has developed a comprehensive county history
library and newspaper clipping file for serious researchers. The Memorial Fund buys each new area book that
is published, in addition, the entire census from Township number 1 in 1860 to the most recent has been
acquired on microfilm. All of this has been done by volunteers; and
WHEREAS, THE MARTINEZ HISTORICAL SOCIETY'is proud of its massive collection of historic
photographs, artifacts from the city and county, the county census from 1860 to 1920 and other interesting
things to see.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does
hereby wish the
