BACKGROUND: _J On October 24, 2000, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Sheriff to accept a COPS MORE 2000 grant award in the amount of$175,000 with local matching funds of$164,687. The grant award allowed the addition of four Sheriffs Ranger position and three Sheriffs Aide positions. BACKGROUND: The U.S. Department of Justice announced the availability of additional funding under the COPS MORE 2000 program. Deputies assigned to the intake/booking unit at the Main Detention Facility currently spend 4.7 hrs per shift completing administrative functions related to intake/booking. In addition, it takes a Deputy in excess of 46 minutes to complete a round-trip transport from the field to the detention facility. The time saved by this additional civilian staff will allow arresting officers more time for community policing duties.
