BACKGROUND Supervisorial District 1 El Cerrito Library Portola Middle School Students - In recognition of the outstanding landscaping job the eighteen students and seventeen mentors completed for the El Cerrito Library. Using tools donated by Home Depot, they removed ivy encroaching on new ground cover and filled a dumpster for green matter donated by East Bay Sanitary. District. Kensington Library Friends of* the Kensington Library — In recognition of their support of children's programming at the Kensington Library. San Pablo Library Friends of*the San Pablo Library— In recognition of their support for children's programming at the San Pablo Library. Basia Lubicz, "Stories To Go" Program — In recognition of her outstanding commitment to the Stories To Go preschool outreach program in the San Pablo community. Margaret has volunteered since 1982 and rarely has missed a day. She undertakes many responsibilities and is a pleasure to have as a volunteer. Mary Ann Hoisington_ In recognition of her many years as a member of the Friends of the Lafayette Library. In the past year, in addition to serving as President of the Friends, she has been actively involved in the process of acquiring a new Lafayette Library, participating in many different aspects of that project. Moraga Library Margaret Thornton, Gretchen Blakewell, Joan Muer & The Moraga Book Sale Team — In recognition of this dedicated group for their work in renovating space in the Moraga Library to create a Book Sale Room. The volunteers spend many hours each week coordinating the operations of the Room. Their efforts have resulted in significant additional funds for the Moraga Friends. Marvin Schrater — In recognition of the substantial time he has spent mending books and videos for both the Moraga and Lafayette libraries. His efforts have saved a tremendous number of items from being removed from the collection due to damage. Orinda Library Friends of the Orinda Library — In recognition of the outstanding efforts of the Friends of the Orinda Library who have raised five million dollars and participated in the planning of the new library in Orinda which will better meet the needs of the community. Pinole Library Nancy Corl — In recognition of her dedication to the Pinole Library. Nancy comes in almost daily to clean and mend books and videos and she also helps with other special projects such as assisting with Teen Writing Contest invitations. Rodeo Library Liana Rus•lim — In recognition of her volunteer work as a Book Mender at the Rodeo Library since 1997. Thanks to her work, many books have been saved and returned to the Rodeo Library collection. Supervisorial District 3 Danville Library Sally Reimers — In recognition of Sally Reimers, Friends of the Danville Library, for her fresh ideas, positive influence and thoughtful changes to the Friends of the Danville Library organization. Sally Reimers deserves recognition of the highest order for the outstanding influence she has had on the Friends of the Danville Library. San Ramon Library Tobey Bolles & Shirley Alpert, San Ramon Library Advisory members and Library volunteers — In recognition of their many years of work as Library Advisory Committee members, developing a San Ramon Library Master Plan and planning for the Dougherty Valley and City Center libraries. They also volunteer in the library as book drop volunteers and shelvers, and assist with special projects such as refurbishing the children's picturebooks and CD ROM collection. Shirley is also a Board Member for the Friends of the Library Foundation. Walnut Creek Library Rossmoor Books-to-Go Delivery Group: Dorothy Cohen, John Jahn, Leonard Krauss, Wanda Leffel, Edna Mass, Phyllis Orlik, Nanette Sand, Sigrid Lotl,Allen Schwartz, Alyce Schwartz, Stan Vernon, Julie Macksey and Leon Waxman and Rossmoor staff members Cathy Maggi, Marie Gray and Constance Roberts, Director — In recognition of their commitment to extending library service beyond the walls of the library to make it possible. for more residents of Rossmoor to participate in the benefits of borrowing books and cassettes from the Walnut Creek Library. Special thanks to our partners at Rossmoor who make this project possible. \\NT-FI LES V R\ADM IN\bos\vol-2000.doc i Contra Costa County Library 2000 Annual Volunteer & Community Partners Report May 1, 2001 Page 3 Supervisorial District 4 Clayton Library Ted& Claire Holmsen, Clayton Library — In recognition of their husband and wife teamwork every Thursday for over six years. The Holmen's provide practical support and critical thinking while never shirking routine tasks. Ted has traveled throughout the county to train video menders and is Clayton's mender-in-chief. His woodworking skills have produced custom made items such as paperback shelf adapters. William Hintz and Grover "Pete" Peterson, Clayton Library— In recognition of the huge volume of work they handle with cheerful stability. Bill and Pete are the reliable crew on Thursday afternoons. These two senior citizens have put in nearly 900 hours each shelving and sensitizing materials for over six years. Pete can be depended on to encourage us and Bill always has a kind smile for each person, and never leaves until we are all in our cars with engines running. Reemond Fong, Clayton Library Student Volunteer — In recognition of his stepping into a leadership role as Clayton's Student Lead Volunteer on Wednesday evenings. Reed handles our recycling program, packs the shipment, trains new student volunteers, and works right up to the closing minute. He has worked over 200 hours and his our Teen Volunteer 2001. Concord Library Dick Solotiv — In recognition of his dedication and longevity as a Concord Library volunteer. Dick has been volunteering since 1992 and has contributed more than 2,300 hours of volunteer time. Central Library Catherine Prato & Diane Kaufman_ In recognition of their volunteer work for the Central Library Reference department. Catherine assists by photocopying articles into booklets to make them less susceptible to damage and she assists the Order Unit staff in filing purchase orders. Diane assists with local history newspaper clipping files. Their assistance is invaluable. Library Administration Lisa Battles — In recognition of her tremendous work on re-organizing Library Administration's historical files. Having worked for Chevron for 30 years, Lisa has brought in-depth knowledge on file maintenance, dedication and enthusiasm to her volunteer work. Alan Smith, Library Commission Chair — In recognition of his significant contribution of time and talent, his commitment to the Library through his work as Chair of the County Library Commission and his dozens of presentations to civic groups throughout the county. Project Second Chance Adult Literacy Program Joan Casey & Rod Jones — In recognition of their commitment to excellence to Project Second Chance, the Contra Costa County Library's adult literacy program. As a result of their creativity, loyalty and humor that they bring to each lesson, their student's lives are changing as their basic skills improve. Technology for Teens in Transition Darrell Cacciaroni & Arti Kirsch — In recognition of their dedication, reliability, flexibility and attention to the needs of the youth they mentor in juvenile hall. Supervisorial .District 5 Antioch Library Jane Wilkins, Lada Velichkov and Dick Juba, Antioch Friends of the Library volunteers— In recognition of their outstanding and dedicated service to the Friends of the Library. We are grateful for their hard work with book sales, fundraising, adding gift books to the collections and more. Jeff& Nicole Besancon, Antioch Student Volunteers — In recognition of over 60 hours of dedicated student volunteer service they have each provided. We appreciate their helpful attitude and friendly smiles. Stan's willingness to persevere as an Internet trainer is greatly appreciated by the staff who consider Stan a valued friend.
