SUBJECT: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee,
to ACCEPT grant awards from the Zellerbach Family Fund for the Shared Family Care
program (#21-386) for FY 2001 and 2002.
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to ACCEPT
grant awards from the Zellerbach Family Fund for the Shared Family Care program for FY 2001 and 2002.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
No County cost. The Zellerbach Family Fund awarded funds for the Shared Family Care program; $40,000 for
FY 2001 and $10,000 for FY 2002.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This grant supports Shared Family Care program activities. Shared Family Care supports all of the Contra Costa
County Children's Report Card outcomes: "Children Ready For and Succeeding in School; Children and Youth
Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood; Families that are Economically Self Sufficient;Families that
are Safe, Stable and Nurturing; and Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children
and Families." The program provides resources that enhance parents' ability to care for children, preventing out-
of-home placement and improving the strength of families.
BACKGROUND:
The Zellerbach Family Fund granted $40;000 to the Employment and Human Services Department for the
Shared Family Care program for FY 2001 and an additional $10,000 for FY 2002. These funds will provide:
support for a housing coordinator position; maintenance dollars for mentor families; family respite; housing
allowances; and aftercare and graduation expenses.

The Zellerbach Family Fund also supports similar activities in Alameda County, with a goal of encouraging
public support of services and providing ongoing resources for shared learning, evaluation and dissemination of
the work.
