On this date, the Board of Supervisors recognized the Contra Costa County Eighth
Annual Cesar E. Chavez Commemorative Celebration. This included musical
entertainment, guest speakers and award presentations. A reception immediately
followed.

Youth Hall of Fame

INDUCTEES FOR THE YEAR 2001
The Countywide Youth Commission is pleased to announce that five outstanding youth and one
adult advocate have been chosen for the Contra Costa County Youth Hall of Fame. Youth
Hall of Fame was established in 1998 as a way to recognize the sometimes over-looked commit-
ment and service of local youth to their peers, their schools and their communities. This year's
honorees represent the many and valuable contributions made by young people, as well as the
adults who work with youth,in our county. Honorees will be added to a perpetual plaque kept in
the lobby of the Board of Supervisors'Chambers.
Year 2001 Youth Hall of Fame Honorees
Good Samaritan: Erika Herbst—age 15/101h grade,Ygnacio Valley High School
Representing youth who go out of their way to do something good without getting recognition.
Erika worked hard from her kindergarten years to volunteer with special education classmates to
currently volunteering in retirement homes and tutoring middle school students.
Valiant Volunteer. Tiffany Dooley--age 13/8'" grade, Valley View Middle School
Representing youth who give their time and energy to a worthy cause or organization. Tiffany
helps to improve the environment around her as well as motivating others to recycle and recog-
nize their responsibility to preserve their environment.
Sports Leadership: Brian Raney—age 17/12'"grade, San Ramon Valley High
Representing youth who work unselfishly for the good of the team. Brian, who is physically
challenged,exhibits exemplary sportsmanship while competing in basketball programs.
Artiste. Stephanie Kendell—age 17/121"grade,Alhambra High School
Representing youth who use their musical, literary or artistic talent to benefit the school or
community. Stephanie participates in school musicals, voice lessons, ballet and tap while also
playing in three varsity sports.
School Leadership:]ayme Farrell-Ranker—age 14/8'"grade,Valley View Middle
Representing youth who exhibit outstanding school pride and who lend a helping hand for the
good of the school.]ayme commits herself to tutoring fellow students while organizing commu-
nity-wide programs such as Adopt-a-Family and canned food drives.
Adult Advocate- Charles Lafferty—Oakley: teacher at De La Salle High School
Representing adults who work diligently to support our youth. Charles started and funds a
before school breakfast for those unable to-eat before coming to school, provides support to the
school paper, and is recognized as a teacher in whom students can trust and confide.
