SUBJECT: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee,
to execute a Contract # 21-732 with Volunteer & Emergency Services Team in Action
(VESTIA), for the amount of $85,000 for the expansion of the Clothes Closet Program of
CalWorks for the period from April 9, 2001 through June 30, 2002.
SPECIFIC REQUEST (S) OR RECOMMENDATION (S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute
Contract # 21-732 with VESTIA for the Ready to Work Clothes Closet Program with the payment limit of
$85,000 for the expansion of services for the period from April 9, 2001 through June 30, 2002.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
County cost is $8,500 (10%), State/Federal (CalWorks) is $76,500 (90%).
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
Activities of the Ready to Work Clothes Closet Program will support client employment and therefore the
following three community outcomes: (1) Families that are Economically Self Sufficient, (2) Families that are
Safe, Stable, and (3) Nurturing and Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for
Children and Families.
BACKGROUND:
This contract will enable the five-year-old Ready to Work Clothes Closet to expand its program of counseling
and assisting disadvantaged women seeking to prepare themselves for employment. It will focus on the areas
of attitude, business etiquette and image, and assist women with job preparation skills, and provide them with
appropriate business clothes for job interviews. This contract will support the Ready to Work Clothes Closet
Program by enabling the program to equip their space and enhance the display of clothes, prepare donated
clothes so that they are useable and purchase clothes when necessary so that a full range of appropriate
clothes are available for the diverse population of participants.
