In the Matter of Resolution No. 2001/98
RECOGNIZING JOSEPH STEVEN TOVAR, SR.
AS A 2001 LIBERTY UNION HIGH SCHOOL
DISTRICT "GRADUATE OF DISTINCTION"
WHEREAS, Joseph Steven Tovar Sr. was a graduate of Liberty High School in 1944.-
and 944;and
WHEREAS, following his graduation from Liberty High Joe joined the Navy where he
served in the Presidents Specialized Program for Combat Aircrewman; and
WHEREAS, after his discharge form the Navy he went to work as a chemical operator
for DOW Chemical where eventually he was promoted to Supervisor then to Employee Relations
Supervisor until his retirement in 1982; and
WHEREAS, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Ruth, in 1950 and they were
blessed with a son and two daughters; and
WHEREAS, Joe served as Fire Chief for Oakley Fire Protection District from 1974 to
2000 and as a volunteer from 1953 to 2000; and
WHEREAS, Joe continues to serve his community through several organizations and
through his church; and
WHEREAS, as an honored "Graduate of Distinction", Joe will be honored on March 9,
2001 at a special awards ceremony and social at Caps Oak Street Bar and Grill in Brentwood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County .
of Contra Costa, California, does hereby expresses sincere admiration and appreciation to Joseph
Steven Tovar, Sr. as well as congratulations on being bestowed with the very special honor of
"Graduate of Distinction".
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 6th day of March,
2001.
