APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fleet Manager to purchase one Columbia Freightliner 3000-gallon water-tender and one Pierce Saber triple combination pumper fire response vehicles to replace aged and obsolete vehicles. 2. APPROVE attached appropriation adjustment, appropriating $597,969 from the Oakley Fire Development Trust Fund to the Oakley Fire Protection District Capital Outlay Fund to finance the vehicle replacement. FISCAL IMPACT: The cost of the new vehicles in the amount of $597,969 will be funded from the Oakley Developer Fee Trust Fund. BACKGROUND: In accordance with Administrative Bulletin No. 508 "County Vehicle and Equipment Acquisition and Replacement Policy with Guidelines," approval is requested for the purchase .of two fire engines: a 1965 water-tender and a 1971 combination pumper engine. Both of these engines are well past their recommended life span, are damaged and replacement parts are no longer available. The purchase of a new water-tender engine was approved last fiscal year but, due to the transition to a new Acting Fire Chief and administrative staff, the request for approval is being resubmitted. The request for the combination pumper engine is submitted on an emergency basis because the manufacturer is offering a 4% price discount, which will expire prior to the Fiscal Year 2001-2002 Budget Hearings. This request has been reviewed and approved by the Fleet Manager and the County Administrator for consideration by the Board of Supervisors.
