APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to contract with
Elder Abuse Prevention (#21-722) in the amount of$50,000 for domestic violence services for the period
from April 1, 2001 through March 31, 2002.
FINANCIAL IMPACT-

the Employment and Human Services Department.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATF,MENTe
This contract supports the following Contra Costa County community outcomes: "Families that are Safe, Stable
and Nurturing"; and "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families."
Contract services will help to improve the quality of life of Contra Costa County seniors and dependent adults
through increased awareness of domestic violence and abuse issues within the elderly and dependent adult
population.
BACKGROUND&
Elder Abuse Prevention was selected by the Employment and Human Services Department for a contract based
on its response to a public bid issued in November 2000 (RFP 1056).
EHSD is currently implementing expanded domestic violence services through contracted services. This
contract will complement other services being provided by the Department by focusing on the elderly and
dependent adult populations. With this contract, EHSD has earmarked all of the $150,000 set aside by the Board
for Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence Activities.
Under this contract, Elder Abuse Prevention will offer workshops, conferences and topical training for EHSD
staff, community-based organizations, caregivers and other community members. Twelve workshops and two
full-day general conferences will be held throughout the County. These services will increase community
awareness of domestic violence as it affects elderly and dependent adult populations, while improving the
linkages to existing resources within the County.
