Gilbert, Director of General Services = ot Costa DATE: January 23, 2001 . casra roe County SUBJECT: CONTRACT EXTENSION AGREEMENT FOR RICHARD POLLACK, NOT TO EXCEED $75,000, FOR THE PERIOD AUGUST 2, 2000 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2001 SPECIFIC REQUESTS OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDATION: AUTHORIZE and APPROVE the Director of General Services to sign a contract extension agreement with a total payment limit of$75,000 for the period August 2, 2000 through December 31; 2001, with Richard Pollock for continuation of procurement services. II. FISCAL IMPACT: The Purchasing Division has a vacant, permanent position which will offset the costs of this contract. No additional County funds are required. III. BACKGROUND: Richard Pollack is a former County employee with experience as a Buyer II in Contra Costa County. He now works three days per week on a contractual basis. There is no union issue, as the Buyer classification is unrepresented. His expertise and experience are valuable and necessary to the Division, which has two new Buyers who are still learning public procurement. If this contract is not approved, then the Department will move to fill the permanent, funded vacant position, at greater cost to the general fund.
