HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07182000 - P1 Board of Supervisors Contra Costa County, State of California IN SUPPORT OF THE BAY AREA SPORTS RESOLUTION NO. 2000/333 HALL OF FAME. WHEREAS, THE BAY AREA SPORTS HALL OF FAME, an IRC Section. 501(c) (3) non- profit organization, created in 1981 to promote the development of the attributes gained by participation in sports, namely teamwork, citizenship, sportsmanship, respect for ,authority, and leadership; and WHEREAS, THE BAY AREA. SPORTS HALL OF FAME, honors sports legends of the Bay Area at annual enshrinement banquets, provides sports equipment grants to children's athletic organizations through its Youth Fund, awards high school sports- writing and golf-champion scholarships, conducts major fundraising events to endow the youth Fund and the scholarship program, and administers memorial funds that also provide sports equipment grants; and WHEREAS, THE BAY AREA SPORTS HAIL OF FAME (YOUTH FUND) has distributed more than $1,514,0109 in sports equipment grants to over 350 youth sports organizations. Since its inception in 1981, more than 400,400 children have benefited from Youth Fund grants in the nine counties of the Bay Area; and WHEREAS, THE BAY AREA SPORTS HALL OF FAME (YOUTH FUND) allows Youth groups to apply for a grant if they have their Sec. 501 (c) (3) certification and have been in existence for three or more years; and also administers the Al Selix Memorial .Fund and the. Andrew Regalia Memorial Fund, which provide sports equipment grants to youth groups designated by the Selix and Regalia families; and WHEREAS, the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame is now awarding sports equipment grants, totaling approximately $11,000, to nine organizations in Contra Costa County, these organizations being the Brentwood, Concord, East Bay Waldorf School (El Sobrante), Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Orinda and the WCl Boosters Club (Walnut Creek). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County congratulates these nine Contra Costa County youth sports organizations on their receipt of those grants and it commends the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame for its in-valuable contributions to the education and well being of young people throughout the Bay Area. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors members present on this 181h day of July 2400.
